Project description

A Social Media and Event Manager is needed to work closely with an international project team in Europe, New Zealand and Australia, and the European Union Delegation to Aotearoa New Zealand in Wellington. Suited to a graduate, the Social Media and Event Manager will support the increasingly stronger and closer relationship between the EU and Aotearoa New Zealand. S/he/they will plan and coordinate the delivery of events in New Zealand, and raise interest, promote participation and increase knowledge of EU-NZ cooperation through developing and actioning communication plans and social media posts.

The Social Media and Event Manager will be self-motivated and agile with the ability to turn their hand to whatever tasks are needed to ensure successful communication and events. They will be self-employed and home office-based with frequent meetings in, and visits to, the EU Delegation office in Wellington. They will work in coordination with the support of the project Team Leader and the EU Delegation staff, as well as collaborating with cross-functional teams for design and production.

Background
Over the next 12 months, the EU Delegation will arrange/sponsor different event, communication and media activities designed to strengthen EU-New Zealand relations. Specifically, the activities aim to: advance existing policy dialogues and open avenues to expand relations in priority areas for the EU and New Zealand; to increase understanding of EU policies and objectives, and to build support and agreement in areas of mutual interests for the EU with New Zealand.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing online, hybrid and in-person events, including selecting venues, managing vendors, coordinating logistics for participants such as registrations, onsite management of events in NZ, and writing event reports.
  • Together with others in the team, developing and implementing communication strategies and plans, including promoting events, creating and posting social media content, taking photos and shooting short videos at events for social media posts, and uploading content online.
  • Reviewing event and communication data to measure success and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Contributing to other communication, events and meetings logistics, including the development and maintenance of templates, tools, processes and minutes for meetings and events.

Requirements

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Education at least Bachelor's degree level preferably in communication, marketing, event management, political science, EU affairs, or a related field.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in event management and/or communication - experience with internships and/or other extra curriculum activities may be taken into consideration. Prior experience in NZ is an asset.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Knowledge of te reo Māori is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and interdependently as part of a team.
  • High degree of professionalism.

Additional information

NB: The Social Media and Event Manager will contracted by Particip GmbH, which implements EU-funded outreach events and activities. The position is part time/near full time (negotiable) and will run from January to November 2024. Short-listing will begin immediately and recruitment can start earlier than January 2024.
