The Private Sector Development in Ethiopia (PSD-E) programme aims to strengthen the competitiveness and resilience of Ethiopia’s private sector. Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), co-financed by the European Union and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the programme works with public institutions, private-sector stakeholders and sub-national actors to address constraints to enterprise growth and economic transformation. This assignment supports the programme’s tax and customs work by providing demand-driven short-term expertise and managing two expert pools: one with international experience and one with national experience. A national Pool Manager based in Addis Ababa manages the pools in coordination with GIZ and its partners. Individual expert assignments are jointly identified and planned with the project and its partners and require GIZ’s approval. The assignment contributes to more transparent, accountable and business-oriented tax administration and improved cross-border trade facilitation through modernised, digitally enabled customs services.
