Position
Project description
The African Union (AU) is a Pan-African continental body consisting of 55 African countries and is charged with spearheading Africa’s socio-economic growth through integration, inclusion and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and the African States. The vision of the African Union is that of "An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena". This vision of a new, forward-looking, dynamic and integrated Africa will only be realised through the involvement, commitment and full participation of African Citizens in the transformation of the continent. The involvement of African Citizens calls for the African Union to strive and live up to its ambition of being a People-centred Union through active communication and branding of the programmes of the African Union.
As a joint AU-German Government initiative, the GIZ project "Citizen Engagement and Innovative Data Use for Africa's Development (DataCipation)" project aims to strengthen the engagement between AU Organs, Regional Economic Communities, Member States, and citizens leveraging data, digital and non-digital approaches for good governance and development. Core activities foreseen for the joint initiative are the development and implementation of communication formats enabling participatory, inclusive, and creative engagement for citizens in line with the AU brand identity as well as capacity development for AU staff on interactive communication tools and methodologies. This assignment will focus on Work Package 1 and 2, supporting the DataCipation component of the project. Work Package 1 includes activities related to the “Development and implementation of communication formats.”
To achieve its mandate for the DataCipation project outlined above, the GIZ is looking for an experienced and highly qualified copywriter to support the development of online and offline communication material that will promote the programmes of the AU and Africa’s Agenda 2063 under the “DataCipation” project.
Broadly, the Copywriter will be responsible for online and offline content and other marketing materials in close coordination with AU, GIZ and Particip to propose original and engaging content for the web.
The Copywriter will work closely with the AU Information and Communication Directorate (AU ICD) for the DataCipation project, particularly in specifically the roll-out and implementation of the large-scale communication campaigns – African Union Media Fellowship, Citizens Talk and Extraordinary Africans. The Consultant will be expected to collaborate with the Web and Communication teams of the AU ICD. The Digital Marketing Experts will therefore collaborate with a wide pool of colleagues. If further projects are to be developed during the overall campaign, the experts will be charged with supporting those. The location of the assignment is remote work with possible travels in the African continent. The consultant will be working directly with the AU ICD, supporting the Directorate as a liaison between AU, GIZ and Particip as well as relevant other STEs.
