Project description

The project aims is to provide a Technical Assistance to public agencies that support private sector development in Malawi, with the aim of improving the business operating environment in the country, for increased investment and job creation. The intervention will work with several government institutions including, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI), Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC), Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS), Competition and Fair Trading Commission, and Malawi Agricultural and Industrial Investment Corporation (MAIIC).

Requirements

Qualifications and skills

  • Minimum requirement: A master’s degree in economics, or business administration, or development policy, or international relations. Alternatively, a bachelor in the same fields plus 5 additional years of relevant professional experience on top of the required general professional experience.
General professional experience
  • Minimum requirement: 12 years of experience in investment promotion and facilitation, and/or export promotion and facilitation
  • Preferred requirement: Experience in delivering capacity-building initiatives in investment promotion and facilitation.

Specific professional experience
  • Minimum requirement: 7 years’ experience working on in-depth research and analysis of macroeconomic trends and investment trends in industrial, service, and agricultural sectors
  • Minimum requirement: 7 years’ experience in designing and implementing investment incentives schemes, and developing investment and/or export promotion strategies, with a proven record of accomplishment in promoting investments and exports
  • Preferred requirement: Experience in conducting audit and gaps analysis of business and investment related laws and regulations, and formulation of harmonised and enhanced investment incentives framework
  • Preferred requirement: Proven track-record in implementing and managing IT tools in an investment promotion agency set-up
  • Preferred requirement: Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • The expert should be fluent in English
