Project description
The project aims is to provide a Technical Assistance to public agencies that support private sector development in Malawi, with the aim of improving the business operating environment in the country, for increased investment and job creation. The intervention will work with several government institutions including, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI), Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC), Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS), Competition and Fair Trading Commission, and Malawi Agricultural and Industrial Investment Corporation (MAIIC).

Requirements
Qualifications and skills
- Minimum requirement: A master’s degree in environmental or industrial chemistry engineering or other related technical natural science. Alternatively, a bachelor in the same fields plus 5 additional years of relevant professional experience on top of the required general professional experience.
General professional experience
- Minimum requirement: 10 years of experience in the SQAM field, preferably cross-cutting more than one of the functional area of SQAM,
- Preferred requirement: Experience in delivering capacity building initiatives in the SQAM field.
Specific professional experience
- Minimum requirement: 7 years’ experience working with a Certification body, private or public, preferably accredited to or aligned with ISO/IEC 17065 Conformity assessment,
- Preferred requirement: Demonstrable experience working on product certification processes including, application and testing of products, evaluation of test results, second review and decision,
- Preferred requirement: Demonstrable experience of working with standards for agricultural produce and foodstuffs, with documented insights into foodstuff safety requirements and phytosanitary requirements,
- Preferred requirement: Proven track-record in drafting national product standards,
- Preferred requirement: Experience working in a SQAM environment in Sub-Saharan Africa,
- The expert should be fluent in English.
